Impairments in SVV perception may be observed in some vestibular system lesions, especially otolith dysfunctions, and these can be detected by static SVV test. The bucket test, a version of the static SVV test, is a test that can be easily performed with simple, low-cost equipment. The aim of this study is to create normative data by determining deviation from the vertical in children with the bucket test.

Method and Materials: In the study, bucket test was applied to 41 girls (54.7%) and 34 boys (45.3%) (75 in total) healthy children aged 7-12 years to evaluate binocular SVV. The child's face was positioned vertically in the bucket with a mark on its bottom, and the bucket was rotated until the child indicated that he/she saw the shape vertically. The test was completed by performing a total of 10 repetitions, 5 in clockwise and 5 in counterclockwise rotation. The amount of deviation from the vertical was determined in degrees by taking the arithmetic average of the deviation angles from the vertical obtained from 5 trials in the same rotation direction.

Results: The median ± standard deviation of visual vertical slope was determined as 0 ± 3.4º. In the clockwise evaluation, the median of the degree of deviation from the vertical was 0.8º, with a 95% CI [0.8 º - 1.4 º], and in the counterclockwise evaluation, the median of the degree of deviation from the vertical was 0.8º, with a 95% CI [0.6 º - 1 º].

Conclusion: In this study, normative data for children was obtained with the bucket test which is an easy-to-use and low-cost tool, can be added to the vestibular test battery in the pediatric population. Keywords : Bucket Test, Subjective Visual Vertical, Otolith Organs, Vestibular Dysfunction
