1Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi Gülhane Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Kulak Burun Boğaz Hastalıkları ve Baş Boyun Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye Aim: To evaluate the scientific reliability and quality of the most watched YouTube videos on CSF leakage and repair, with internationally accepted scoring systems, and to examine the relationship of these videos with popularity.

Materials and Methods: The most popular 40 videos were selected by searching the terms "cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea/leak", and "endoscopic cerebrospinal fluid leak repair/surgery" on the YouTube website (http://www.youtube.com). Duration, upload date, upload source, number of views, likes, dislikes, and comments, view rate, video power index were recorded. Video quality was evaluated with the DISCERN, the modified DISCERN, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Global Quality Scale scoring system.

Results: The study included 40 videos, of which 26 (65%) were uploaded by healthcare professionals and 14 (35%) were uploaded by independent individuals. In all scoring indexes, videos published by healthcare professionals were found to be statistically more reliable and of higher quality than videos uploaded by independent individuals (p<0.001). When the popularity of the videos was evaluated, the videos in the very bad or bad category received more views and likes than the good or medium quality videos (p = 0.027, p = 0.024 and p = 0.033, respectively). A negative and statistically significant correlation was found between the scores of video like rate (r=-0.390; p= 0.013), and video power index (r=-0.346; p= 0.029).

Conclusion: YouTube videos on CSF leakage and surgery uploaded by healthcare professionals are of higher quality than those uploaded by independent individuals, but this is not reflected in popularity. Keywords : Cerebrospinal fluid leak, endoscopic surgery, reliability, social media, YouTube
