COMPARISON OF MASSETER VEMP FINDINGS OBTAINED WITH CLICK AND TONE BURST STIMULUS IN YOUNG ADULTS
1Bezmialem Vakıf Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi, Odyoloji Bölümü, İstanbul, Türkiye Objective: The aim of this study is to establish clinical norm of mVEMP test using click and tone burst stimulus in healthy young adults aged 20-45 years.Method: This study; was carried out on 41 volunteers who came to Bezmialem Vakıf University Audiology Clinic with normal otoscopic and audiological findings, no vestibular complaints, and no history of neurological, systemic and metabolic diseases. mVEMP examination was performed in all individuals using the GN otometrics ICS charter EP200 (Denmark) device. Right and left ear P11, N21 latencies and N1-P1 interval latencies, P11-N21 amplitude values and amplitude asymmetry rates were evaluated using click and tone burst stimuli.
Results: When the right and left ears were compared using click and tone burst stimuli, no statistically significant difference was observed in latency and amplitude values. When evaluating between stimuli; The p11, n21 latencies and N21-P11 interval latencies were significantly prolonged in the tone burst stimulus and the amplitude values were statistically significantly larger (p<0.001). No statistically significant difference was observed between amplitude asymmetry rates.
Conclusion: According to the findings, longer latency and larger amplitude were obtained with tone burst stimulus, and no significant difference was found in amplitude asymmetry rates between stimuli. Due to the large amplitude values, it is easier to find the peaks with the tone burst stimulus compared to the click stimulus. According to the results of the study, although it is recommended that each clinic create its own normative data, it is more appropriate to use tone burst stimulus in mVemp clinical practice, as in other Vemp tests.
