EVALUATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HEMATOLOGIC PARAMETERS AND DISEASE STAGE IN BELL'S PALSY
1Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Kulak Burun Boğaz Ana Bilim Dalı, Bolu, Türkiye Objective: In this study, we aim to investigate whether or not disease stage, gender differences, and affected side is correlated with neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV) values in Bell's palsy (BP) patients.Material and Methods: Data of 157 patients (76 females and 81 males) between age 25-65 affected by Bell's palsy and 30 participants in control group was retrospectively evaluated. Within study scope, patients were assessed in detail according to patient age, gender, BP side, House-Brackmann score (HBS) system grading, NLR, MPV, and PLR ratios.
Results: A total of 157 patients, in which 76 (48.4%) were female and 81 (51.6%) were male, were included in the study. There was a statistically significant difference between the phases according to NLR values. Assessment of MPV values according to stages showed significant difference between stage 2 and stage 3. Correlation analysis of HBS grade and hematologic parameters showed that only NLR was negatively correlated with stage differences.
Conclusion: We conclude that there is a negative correlation between NLR and disease stage, in contrast to the literature.
