Introduction: Otomycosis is a fungal infection that frequently involves the external auditory canal. Candida spp., and Aspergillus spp., are the most common fungal pathogens .The aim of this study was to determine the etiologic agents and antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida otomycosis in our hospital.

Method: The study was designed as a retrospective analysis of the external ear canal specimens of patients with candida growth following otomycosis in Otolaryngology and Infectious Diseases outpatient clinic between 2018-2019. After removal of ear infectious samples, some of them were placed on the slides for direct examination and also a portion of them was plated on the Sabouraud dextrose agar. The yeasts were evaluated according to germ tube, and chlamydospore formation, reproduction at 45°C, colony characteristics on SDA medium. The commercial method Phoenix (Becton Dickinson,USA) was also used for identification. Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), M27-A3 microdilution method was applied for posaconazole, clotrimazole, bifanazole antifungal susceptibility.

Findings: A total of 27 Candida species were isolated. Isolated species were identified as, 12 (44.4%) C albicans, 7 (26%) C parapsilosis, 7 (26%) C glabrata, 1 (3.6%) C tropicals.The geometric mean (GM) of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) forposaconazole, clotrimazole, bifanazole was 0,22 µg/mL, 1.98 µg/mL, 0.7 µg/mL, respectively.

Conclusion: C albicans was the predominant aetiological agent. On the basis of the values, the most effective antifungal was posaconazole. Among the topical drugs, bifanazole was found to be more effective than clotrimazole. Keywords : Otomycosis; Candida spp; antifungal
