In our study, we aimed to evaluate the histopathological examination results and to determine the unexpected malignancy rates.

Material and Methods: 555 adult and pediatric patients who underwent adenoidectomy / tonsillectomy / adenotonsillectomy at our clinic between 2014-2018 included in the study. Patient files were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: Of 555 patients, 49 were adult (18 years and over) and 506 were pediatric age group. While 550 patients had benign reports, 5 patients (1 pediatric, 4 adult cases) reported as suspicion of malignancy. As a result of further investigation of cases with suspected malignancy, 1 pediatric cases and 1 adult were diagnosed as malignancy. Different benign reports were chronic lymphoid hyperplasia, reactive follicular hyperplasia, polypoid formation, epidermoid cyst and actinomyces colonization.

Conclusion: In our study, the detection of lymphoma in a pediatric patient who did not have any clinical findings is suggesting that routine specimens should also be examined. In addition, these investigations may be necessary for medico-legal aspects. Keywords : Adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy, adenotonsillectomy, specimen
