HINT EVALUATION IN CHILDREN WITH SPEECH SOUND DISORDER

Objective: Language development in accordance with the child's developmental age affects the child's success both socially and academically. The aim of our study is to evaluate the speech comprehension in noise test (HINT-C) results in children with speech sound disorders.

Material and Methods: The study included 52 children with speech sound disorder and 52 children without any speech disorder between the ages of 6-12 ages. All children included in the study underwent general ear, nose and throat examination, HINT-C test and pure tone audiometry test.

Result: The HINT-C test of children with speech sound disorder and children without speech disorder was compared, the results of the group with speech sound disorder were lower, and this difference was statistically significant. (p=0.00)

Conclusion: In children with speech sound disorders, speech intelligibility becomes difficult in noise. This situation effects of children's developmental and cognitive development. Keywords : Speech Sound Disorders, HINT test, Noise, Pediatric
