EVALUATION OF MONOCYTE / HDL - CHOLESTEROL RATIO IN PATIENTS WITH SUDDEN IDIOPATHIC SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS

Our aim in this study is to evaluate MHR in terms of etiopathogenesis and prognosis of sudden idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss (SISNHL).
Material-Method: Patients treated for SISNHL in the Ear Nose Throat (ENT) clinic between January 2014 and April 2020 were included in the study. The control group was selected from patients who applied to the ENT clinic for routine examination. Patients' responses to treatment were evaluated according to Siegel criteria and two groups (complete recovery, incomplete recovery) were formed. MHRs of the groups were analyzed.
Results: There were 70 patients in the SISNHL group (complete recovery: 31, incomplete recovery: 39), 59 patients in the control group. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of gender and age (p= 0.741, 0.269 respectively). When SISNHL and the control group's MHRs were compared, there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). In terms of prognosis, there was also a significant difference when the MHRs of the three groups (complete recovery, incomplete recovery, control) were compared (p= 0.002). As a result of the advanced analysis, the control group was significantly different from the other two groups (complete recovery, incomplete recovery). There was no significant difference between the complete recovery and incomplete recovery groups.
Conclusions: The fact that MHR is higher in SISNHL patients compared to the control group suggests atherosclerosis and systemic inflammation in etiopathogenesis. However, the prognostic value of MHR was not found in SISNHL.
