CONCHA-SEPTAL SUTURE TECHNIQUE FOR MIDDLE CONCHA MEDIALISATION AFTER ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY
Adana Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Kulak Burun Boğaz Hastalıkları, Adana, Türkiye Objective: To investigate the efficacy of concha-septal suture techniquewithout nasal packing in patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery for medically refractory chronic rhinosinusitis.Material- Method: Sixty-six nasal cavity of 36 patients operated with endoscopic sinus surgery between October 2014 and February 2015 were enrolled into the study. All patients were operated under general anesthesia and at the end of the operation concha-septal suture was performed instead of nasal packing. All patients underwent a detailed endoscopic nasal evaluation at 1st, 2nd and 4th week after the operation and all complications were noted.
Result: The study included 15 female and 21 male patients with 34.8 ± 19.6 average age. After surgery 2 patients had epistaxis(5.5%) . At the 4th week evaluation, synechia formation was seen in 5 of 66 nasal cavity (7.5%) at the middle meatus, between the lateral side of middle concha and lateral nasal wall. The cost of the concha-septal suture was 7,38 TL.
Conclusion: Concha-septal suture technique is effective to prevent the synechia formation which is the most common complication in patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis, with low costs.
