MAXILLARY SINUS TUMORS

Objectives: In this study, 43 patients were treated surgically in maxillary sinus tumors were evaluated retrospectively.

Methods: Forty-three cases diagnosed with maxillary sinus tumor in the Selçuk Üniversitesi, Meram Tıp Fakültesi, Department of Otolaryngology between 1995- 2001 were investigated.

Results: In our study, 43 patients with maxillary sinus tumor was treated with surgically. 15 patients had epidermoid carcinoma, 2 adenoid cystic carcinoma, 1 each case mucoepidermoid carcinoma, adenoid carcinoma, verrucous carcinoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, esthesioneuroblastoma, transitional cell carcinoma, non hodgking lymphoma, malignant melanoma, angiosarcoma, 3 giant cell granuloma, 3 juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, 5 mucocele, 2 fibrous dysplasia, each with 1 case inverted papilloma, pseudotumor, osteoma was detected. In 17 patients, surgical treatment, surgery and radiotherapy in 11 patients, surgery and radiotherapy, and chemotherapy was performed in 10 patients. Both patient was inoperable.

Conclusion: Treatment of paranasal sinus tumors is complex, therefore, treatment protocols individualized for each patient should be planned. Today, the most effective treatment is possible with surgery and preoperative or postoperative radiotherapy. Keywords : Paranasal sinuses, tumor, surgery
