TYMPANOSTOMY TUBE COMPLICATIONS

Complications of tympanostomy tube insertion are common. The main complications in insertion of tympanostomy tubes include otorrhea, granulation tissue, tube blockage, medial displacement of tube, tympanic membrane perforation, myringosclerosis, atrophy, retraction, and cholesteatoma. Myringosclerosis, tympanic membrane atrophy and otorrhea are most frequently encountered of these complications. But they are generally insignificant. Cholesteatoma is extremly rare, but it is the most serious complication after tympanostomy tube insertion. Keywords : Tympanostomy tube, otorrhea, complication, cholesteatoma
