Purpose: We aimed to evaluate blood level of ischemia modified albumin(IMA) which, arises during various ischemia status in the body, and to search its effect on prognosis while it was found elevated.

Material-methods: 1st and 5th day IMA blood levels of 17 sudden hearing loss patients and of 25 healthy adults who have normal audiological examination as a control group were recorded and compared with each other. The effect of systemic disease existence on IMA values was also evaluated.

Results: IMA value over 0.400 ABSU in both 1st and 5th day records of research and control groups were not found. There were no statistical significant difference between early and late values of IMA (p>0,05). There were no statiscally significant difference between the IMA values of the patients who have systemic disease or not, and of the patients who have recovery or not (p>0,05).

Discussion and conclusion: It was reported that IMA was elevated in many ischemic condition of the body. Vascular impairments suspected in etiopathogenesis of the sudden hearing loss. A trustworthy, easy applicable and cheap marker is always necessity in diagnosis and monitoring of prognosis of the sudden hearing loss. IMA values were investigated to test it could be a marker or not; but the results were not found statistical meaningful. We think the cause of this result depends on; ischemic region is limited in cochlea and its effect on peripheric blood level of IMA is low.
