RHINO-CEREBRAL MUCORMYCOSIS: PALATAL NECROSIS

Dicle Üniversitesi, KBB, Diyarbakır, Türkiye Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal infection, characterized by high mortality, which is caused by Mucorales class of fungus. It is most often found in patients with diabetes mellitus, AIDS, transplanted patients and malignant hematological diseases with neutropenia for long periods and receiving high doses chemotherapy drugs. Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is the most common form. Early recognition and treatment have reduced the mortality and morbidity. The treatment should include radical surgical debridement, application of systemic high doses Amphotericin B and control of the underlying disease. In this paper we presented 25-year-old patient with rhino-cerebral mucormycosis who were diagnosed acut lymphocytic leukaemia and reviewed the characteristic clinical, radiological and pathological features of the disease and its treatment.
