THE HEMODYNAMIC CHANGES IN NECK AFTER RADICAL NECK DISSECTION

3Palandöken Devlet Hastanesi, KBB, Erzurum, Türkiye Excision of internal jugular vein (IJV), external jugular vein (EJV) and their branches during radical neck dissection leads cerebral venous flow to alternative pathways. If these pathways are not sufficient intracranial complications may ocur. In this research we analyse the hemodynamic changes occured in neck veins after radical neck dissection of 10 patients. Before operation and 3 weeks after operation neck doppler ultrasound made and values compared. %131 rise in systolic blood flow velocity in contralateral İJV, %64 rise in ipsilateral vertebral vein and % 34 rise in contralateral EJV found. The contralateral İJV is the main route after radical neck dissection and the secondary route is ipsilateral vertebral venous system. Cervical venous doppler ultrasound is safe and easy procedure that warns us about cerebral complications. Keywords : Radical neck dissection, internal jugular vein, vertebral vein, doppler ultrasound
