Objective: Nocturia is a common complaint in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and it has a major impact in quality of life. However there is only limited number of investigations about the frequency of nocturnal urination in OSAS patients. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects and frequency of nocturnal urination among OSAS patients with different severities and to discover the factors related to nocturia.

Material and Method: A retrospective study was performed among 200 OSAS and 100 snoring patients. These patients were compared with regard to frequency of nocturnal urination, age, sex, apnea- hypopnea index (AHI), body mass index (BMI) and current medical conditions.

Results: Nocturia prevalence was found % 62 in severe OSAS patients. This result was statistically significantly higher than mild/moderate OSAS and snoring patients. The presence of nocturia in OSAS patients was correlated with age (p< 0.001) and AHI (p< 0.01); while no correlation was found for hypertension and BMI (p> 0.05).

Conclusion: The nocturia frequency in severe OSAS patients was higher than mild/moderate OSAS patients and snoring patients. There was a positive correlation between nocturia and patient's age and AHI; while no correlation was found between nocturia and BMI as well as their current medical status.
