Sağlık Bakanlığı Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, 1.Kulak Burun Boğaz Baş ve Boyun Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye Objective: Ostiomeatal complex has a great importance in inflamatory paranasal sinus diseases. This region is very narrow and stenoses brought by inflammation and anatomical variations, hamper the mucociliary activity and consequently the drainage and ventilation of the sinuses hence the necessary milieu for the inflammatory paranasal sinus diseases is created. Anatomic variations are known to be the most important cause of stenoses in this region.

Material and Method: In this study, the incidences of anatomic variations are determined and the role anatomic variations in staging of chronic inflammatory paranasal sinus disease is discussed in 245 patients in Ministry of Health Ankara Training and Research Hospital E.N.T. Clinic. These patients are among 580 patients who were performed functional endoscopic sinus surgery because of chronic inflammatory sinus disease and they do not have polyps and have not been operated before.

Conclusion: As a conclusion we can say that the rates of our patients' anatomical variations are correlated with information from different authors. Nevertheless, these variations do not effect directly the staging of patients (p > 0.05). So we state that anatomical variations are important etiological factors in chronic inflammatory paranasal sinus disease they are not the sole factor in etiopathogenesis of the disease.
