Ankara Numune Hastanesi, 4.KBB, Ankara, Türkiye Purpose: Myringosclerosis on tympanic membrane can affect tympanometric evaluation by decreasing mobility of the eardrum and so can cause misinterpretation of middle ear pathology. Effects of experimental myringosclerosis on tympanometric evaluation has been studied.

Material and Methods: Multiple, bilateral perforations were performed on anterior halves of tymanic membranes of 20 guinea pigs. Typanometric evaluation was performed to all subjects preoperatively and to myringosclerosis developed ones 6 week after the operation.

Results: Myringosclerosis was developed at 16 tymanic membranes. There were statistically significant decrease in middle ear volume and compliance values of these 16 ears when compared with preoperative values.

Conclusion: At a myringosclerotic tympanic membrane, compliance decreases in tympanometry. Similar findings can be got in other pathologies those reducing mobility of tympanic membrane and middle ear. When these middle ear pathologies are evaluated, it should be put in mind that presence of myringosclerosis can affect the test results. Keywords : Tympanic membrane, myringosclerosis, tympanometry
