Sağlık Bakanlığı Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, 3. K.B.B. Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye The comparative evaluation of the postoperative analgesic efficacy, tolerability and effect on hemostatic profile of lornoxicam and metamizole were aimed. The study involved 40 patients who underwent septoplasty because of septal deviation between 2004-2005. It was designed prospectively and the patients were randomly divided into two groups taking into consideration the homogeneity of the gender and age. Study group included 20 patients who took lornoxicam and control group included 20 patients who took metamizole. The drugs were administered orally 30 minutes before surgery and beginning on the postoperative 4th hour they were repeated 2 times daily for 48 hours. Blood samples were collected preoperatively and postoperatively after 48 hours and bleeding time, APTT, PT and INR were studied. Pain was evaluated by a visual analog scale on the postoperative 1st hour, 3rd hour, 6th hour, 24th hour and 48th hour. The study showed that lornoxicam is an effective drug for postoperative pain control. There was no stastical significance between both preoperative and postopertive comparative values regarding both lornoxicam and metamizole. We propose that lornoxicam may be an alternative drug for postoperative pain control because of its fast effect on pain, low side effects, and lack of converse effects on heamostatic profile.
