INVASIVE MASTOID CHOLESTEROL CYST AS A REASON OF CHRONIC HEADACHE

3Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Radyodiagnostik Anabilim Dalı, Tokat, Türkiye Cholesterol cyst (or granuloma) of the temporal bone is a focal inflammatory reaction with foreign body giant cells mobilized against the presence of cholesterol crystals. They grow slowly over a period of years and do not come to clinical attention until they reach a critical size and impinge upon surrounding structures. Petrous apex lesions are more symptomatic that may be the reason why most of the reported cases of cholesterol cysts were commonly in this localization. Mastoid cholesterol cyst is generally asymptomatic and coincidently encountered in chronic otitis media surgery.

In this text we present a symptomatic case of mastoid cholesterol cyst, eroding posterior cranial fossa dural plate and invading epidural space, in a 8 year old girl. Keywords : Temporal bone, cholesterol cyst, granuloma
