Nasal septum deviation may affect sexual function by hypoxia. In this study, we aimed to show whether nasal septum deviation affects sexual functioning in male patients.

Methods: Thirty-three male patients with nasal septum deviation and thirty-eight randomly selected male control subjects were evaluated. All patients were evaluated preoperatively with anterior rhinoscopy, 0 degree rigid endoscopy and computerized tomography. Erectile dysfunction was evaluated by the erectile function domain of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-EF).

Results: In the patient group, the average age was 36.4 (age range 18-45) and in the healthy volunteer group 35.4 (age range 20-44). In the control group, 5.2% of erectile dysfunction was detected. This ratio was found to be 30.3% in the preoperative group of patients. According to this, there was statistically significant level of erectile dysfunction in the patient group with nasal septum deviation compared to the control group (p <0,05). According to the evaluation made at the second month, there was a statistically significant improvement in the frequency of erectile dysfunction after the operation in the patient group (p <0.05).

Conclusion: In our study, statistically significantly higher erectile dysfunction rate was detected in nasal septum deviation patients Further studies are needed to examine the effect of nasal septum deviation on erectile dysfunction in larger patient series and objective diagnostic methods.
