ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT OF THE STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE AUDIOLOGY AND SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY

In this context, the engagement that develops in students is important in the educational life of students. The aim of this study was to determine the academic engagement levels of audiology and speech and language therapy students.
Materials and methods: The academic engagement scale was completed and demographic information was obtained from 280 individuals including students of Ankara Medipol University Audiology Department, Speech and Language Therapy Department and Gazi University Audiology Department.
Results: 280 students participated in the study. A significant difference was found between males and females in terms of academic engagement (p<0.05). It was observed that there was a significant difference between the departments only for the subscale "Participation in the course, library, resource access" (p<0.05), while there was no difference in terms of "Communication with faculty members", "Participation in scientific and cultural activities" subscale and total scale score (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between the grade levels (p>0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results of our study, it was concluded that the academic engagement levels of the students differed in the dimension of "Class participation, library, resource access". It is thought that the findings of our study will create awareness to increase the quality of education of universities providing undergraduate education in Audiology and Speech and Language Therapy.
