ASSR: AUDITORY STEADY-STATE EVOKED RESPONSE AND CLINICAL USAGE

Auditory steady-state evoked response (ASSR) is a novel hearing measurement method which is added the current objective audiologic test battery. It can be recorded from the human scalp in response to auditory stimuli presented at rates between 250 and 8000 Hz or by periodic modulations of the amplitude and frequency of a continuous pure tone. Responses can be objectively detected using frequency-based pure tone audiogram analyses. This article defines the method and measurement of the ASSR, considers the efficiency of ASSR, and advantages of it over clic and tone-burst ABR (Auditory brainstem responses). The usefulness of ASSR in the neonatal hearing screening, clinical usage of it in babies, children, and adults, effects of age on ASSR, its affects on sedation or awakening states, hearing treshold estimate in healthy subjects, hearing evaluation and functional gain assessment in hearing loss patients, hearing evaluation with ASSR in retrocochlear pathology and otoneurological diseases are evaluated.
