EFFECT OF DIFFERENT DOSES OF GRAPE SEED EXTRACT ON ACOUSTIC TRAUMA

The aim of this study is to research effect of different doses of grape seed extract on acoustic trauma.

Our study was carried out on 24 healthy male Spraquey Downey rats with an average age of 12 months and an average weight of 350 gr. Otoscopic examinations and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) tests were done under general anesthesia and hearing thresholds were obtained prior to acoustic trauma. After the measurement, rats were exposed to white noise of 4 kHz with intensity level of 103 dB in a sound- proof testing booth for acoustic trauma. After acoustic trauma, rats were divided into three groups, 8 rats in each. Rats in the first group were given 150 mg/kg/day grape seed extract once a day by gavage at the 2nd hour after trauma and for 10 days afterwards. Rats in the second group were given 250 mg/kg/day grape seed extract once a day by gavage at the 2nd hour after trauma and for 10 days afterwards. Rats in the third group were a control group and no medication were applied. DPOAE test were measured before acoustic trauma, after acoustic trauma, and on the 10th day after acoustic trauma.

Pre trauma and post trauma first day, there was significant statistically difference between the DPOAE SNR results two measurement (p<0,05). Measurement of post trauma last day, DPOAE SNR results of the rats were similar to pre trauma measurement but there was no significant statistically difference between three groups (p> 0,05).

After the end of study, we weren't show that grape seed extract therapeutic effect against acoustic trauma cause of the lack of time acoustic trauma. Keywords : Acoustic trauma, grape seed extract, otoacoustic emission, rats, antioxidan
