EVALUATION THE EOSINOPHILIC CATIONIC PROTEIN (ECP) IN PATIENTS WITH ALLERGIC NASAL POLYP
1Karabük Üniversitesi Karabük Tıp Fakültesi, Kulak Burun Boğaz Anabilim Dalı, Karabük, Türkiye Aim: Eosinophilic Cationic protein (ECP) plays a powerful role in the pathophysiology of inflammation of many diseases such as asthma and allergies and nasal polyp. The aim of our study is to evaluation increase in serum ECP levels in patients with allergic nasal polyps compared to patients without nasal polyps.Methods: 45 patients (Group 1) with allergic complaints and sensitive to at least one allergic test in the skin prick test (Group 1) were compared with 40 patients without nasal polyps (Group2) in terms of serum ECP values.
Results: The average of ECP levels in the NP group was 114 ±42.70 .The average of ECP levels in the control group was 87.5 ±88.38. There was a significant difference between the study group and the control group in terms of serum ECP values. (P <0.005). Serum ECP values were significantly higher in patients with NP.
Conclusion: Blood ECP levels of the patients with nasal polyps were significantly higher than allergic non-polypole patients. Blood ECP levels were increased in allergies, and statistically significantly increased, especially in cases with polyps.
