Titanium clips has been started being used recently in septal surgery, not being widely used yet. The effects of titanium clips on cartilage has not been studied yet. This study has been conducted on auricular cartilages of 12 New Zelland rabbits, and the degree of damage of clips on cartilage, if any, is investigated histopathologically. In 6 of the rabbits, unilateral perichondreal elevation was done in left auricular cartilages, in other 6 of them bilateral elevation was done. In all of the right auricular cartilages, in additon to bilateral perichondreal elevation, clips was applied to the auricular cartilage. At the end of the second month, rabbits were sacrified, and evaluated by two experienced pathologists using 11 parameters including ‘nucleus loss in chondrocytes, peripheral proliferation of chondrocytes, increase in isojen group, collagen and elastic fibers in cartilage matrix, loss in continuation of cartilage (fragmantation), fibrosis, inflammation- foreign body reaction, vascularization, metaplastic bone formation, and new cartilage formation. Keywords : Septal deviation, unilateral elevation, bilateral elevation, titanyum clips, cartilage destruction
