Objective: In addition to objective sides of evaluation methods which are used for simple snoring patient, there is subjective sides. To determinate of snoring segment with these methods is not always possible. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the patients who received a diagnosis of simple snoring, take attention to subjectivity of diagnosis and adequation of snoring segment determination.

Method: Patients who were evaluated with polysomnography for a preliminary diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in our clinic between 2013 and 2014, were detected retrospectively and 31 patients were determined with simple snoring. Demographic characteristics, symptoms and examination findings of simple snoring patients were analyzed.

Results: The mean age of patients including 13 female and 18 male was 47. In addition to snoring, witnessed apne were observed in 28 patients, nocturia were observed in 22 patients and sweating symptom were observed in 19 patients. Modified Mallampati grading were done for each patient by ENT and Neurology physicians respectively. We observed that modified Mallampati grading were assessed in 16 patients differently and in 15 patients similarly. Snoring segment could not be detected in 21 simple snorers among 31 patients by using ENT examination, endoscopic view and Müller maneuver.

Conclusion: Assessment differences would be possible among physicians for modifies Mallampati grading. In addition to the Müller maneuver, there are a great need for more objective, standardize and dynamic examination methods in order to determine snoring segment in simple snoring.
