Mucocele is slow-growing and locally aggressive lesion of the paranasal sinuses. Mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses most commonly occur in the frontal, and ethmoidal sinuses. Giant maxillary sinus mucoceles causing bone destruction are highly rare in patients who have no previous history of sino- nasal surgery. A gradually enlarging lesion results in destruction of the wall of the sinus and extends to the encircling anatomic structures. Symptoms have a connection with this expansive lesion are generally secondary to its pressure effect on neighbouring structures. Computerized tomography is the principal device for the diagnosis. The treatment of maxillary sinus mucoceles is surgical. In this paper, we report the case of an 80 - year-old woman with giant mucocele of the left maxillary sinus. Both the differential diagnosis and the surgical treatment options are presented, and the literature is reviewed. Keywords : Mucocele, Maxillary sinus, Cystic mass, Sino–nasal surgery
