Objective: Tumor -associated tissue eosinophilia (TATE) has been noted in various malignancies, although the mechanism is not well understood. In this sudy, the association between TATE and prognostic parameters of laryngeal cancer was analysed.

Materials and Methods : We examined the TATE in 85 patients with laryngeal epidermoid carcinoma. The cases were divided into 3 categories according to the average number of eosinophils per high-power field (400X): 0 (negative), 1-5 (grade 1+), more than 5 (grade 2+)

Results: Patients were between 35 and 76 years of age, there were 80 males and 5 females. We found 41 TATE- negative( 48%) and 44 TATE-positive cases( 52% ). The relationships between TATE and tumour differantiation, vascular invasion, perineural invasion, lymph node metastasis, patients' ages, T stages were not statistically significant (p>0.05).

Conclusion: The data suggest that stromal eosinophilic infiltration is not useful for determining biological aggressiveness in laryngeal carcinoma. Keywords : Laryngeal carcinoma, eosinophil, prognostic parameters
